“I started my high-fashion jewelry brand in 1987″ says Dori. “A big part of my mission as a woman designer was to resurrect women’s crafts and in particular needlework as artistic means to express female experience. As a woman designing for women, my ‘golden rule’ is to create jewelry pieces that are thrilling-intriguing-surprising, yet are comfortable. I want my customers to be able to express themselves and to actively participate in the creation of their own image. I also want them to love wearing my pieces because they’re lightweight and they can easily wear them all day long.”

“Mastering the technique that I developed takes a long period of intensive training. My artisans and I spend many hours together and we sit on an all open-plan one floor, so that there’s continually an open communication. Naturally, when I hire new artisans, it’s for l-o-n-g term. Since the beginning, bringing women together and being socially responsible have been deeply instilled in my brand’s culture. My team does not look like the average work place staff — it’s an all women team with the exception of one man (who happens to be my husband 😍) — so equal pay is not an issue here. I’m proud to say that most of my team’s artisans have been working with me for ten years and longer!”
